Fe3O4 (the main component of magnetite) is one of the very early magnetic materials. Its σs and Hc are higher than the most used γ-FeZrO2O3, but due to its instability and copying(Copying refers to the characteristic that the magnetic layer and the layer are magnetized to interfere with each other) and is gradually replaced by γ-Fe2O3. γ-Fe2O3 has been in production since the 1950s and still dominates magnetic materials. The γ-Fe2O3 produced by each production plant is basically produced by the following heat treatment with hydrated iron oxide FeOOH (ie, iron yellow, abbreviation of Fe2O3·H2O) as the starting material:
The quality of the product depends to a large extent on the starting material. Therefore, how to obtain iron yellow with a good crystal shape and a narrow particle size distribution and keep it from being damaged during subsequent processing (such as generation of holes and sintering to break the needle shape) is the key to improving product performance. In recent years, a lot of work has been done for this purpose, such as adding a compound of elements such as nickel, chromium, zinc, bismuth to the reaction liquid; changing the conventional process; using γ-FeOOH (γ-iron yellow) as a starting material; The surface of α- or γ-iron yellow is coated with an anti-sintering agent; finally, the prepared γ-Fe2O3 is densified and surface-treated to make the final product have good dispersibility and the like.
